This fourth section by Stephen Yuille got me all sorts of excited to read more works by Perkins! He gives 15 reasons why Perkins is relevant for us today - too many to summarize here.

This section was Perkins own words in his short 6-page treatise: A Case of Conscience, how a man may know whether he be the child of God or no.

I was surprised that it was a dialogue between the church and the apostle John. The church, seeking assurance, asks questions, and John responds to the struggles of the soul with the exact words of his First Epistle.

This next section by Geoffrey Thomas focused on Perkins’ emphasis of true holiness for the genuine believer rooted in faith in Christ.

I enjoyed William’s conversion story and the godly men who tutored Perkins, namely Richard Greenham. This chapter gave a good introduction to his beginnings.

This first section by Sinclair Ferguson was dedicated to Perkins’ life and ministry; particularly William’s reputation as a plain preacher rather than an eloquent, sophisticated one. There were many sections that stood out to me: Perkins band of brothers and the chain of influence he had, his ocular catechism essentially a 16th century PowerPoint presentation of the gospel, and his emphasis on the preached Word.
