I’m on the fence. I think it’s going to get good but things need to be put in place first. The world building is basically explaining rather than showing. Which is fine but it slows down the momentum of the plot and right now I feel like I want something I can just sink my teeth into and not be bore by the necessary world building stuff…

STRONGLY considering DNFing this book. I’m definitely pausing it for now because I want to spend my day off reading and I’m not enjoying this one and feel no urge to pick it up. I also really enjoyed the author’s most recent book so I’m so disappointed I don’t like this one.

Deeply considering DNFing this book but I payed for it so I really don’t want to just give up but I’m 54% of the way through and so bored. The thought of having to read another 230 pages is killing me

Also, what’s with fantasy books and made up swear words?? “Scrumming” is our fantasy word of the day, used in exactly the same way as the very satisfactory f word. Also, apparently a candle is a normal thing to call a man’s private parts ?? Sure, why not ?

Luca Wright is starting
“As Sancia Grado lay facedown in the mud, stuffed underneath the wooden deck next to the old stone wall, she reflected that this evening was not going at
all as she had wanted.” Sold. It’s been one of those days where I’ve picked up six different books, read a few pages and none of them are doing it for me. But something about this first sentence clicked. Less fortunate, I now have six new books on my TBR.
