As election season becomes more imminent, picking this book off of my shelf to stretch its pages seemed less of a thoughtful act and more of an absentminded reflex; the muscles and joints of my body working together in practiced and easy motion.

I bought this book years ago on a lonely day in a bookshop on a Greek island that most people have never heard of - the only English book there for the homesick American.
