Every few pages he has to pause to assure the reader that he is incredibly handsome and intelligent and the most special guy ever. So what I'm getting at is that I wish I had the level of grandeur self delusions that Humbert Humbert has.
I also want to throttle him every time he even looks at Lo, but that's just a given when you read this book.

"I daresay you see me already frothing at the mouth in a fit; but no, I am not; I am just winking happy thoughts into a little tiddle cup." Okay thank God Humbert has these little quips throughout that unintentionally make me laugh, because reading two pages about his nymphet beliefs was ROUGH

"Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul." The opening paragraph has no right to be as good as it is.

"You can always count on a murderer for a fancy prose style" - I don't think many murderers have such a way with purple prose as you do Humbert.
