Fr. Gracian understood how power in the world had to operate in order to be effective. Power itself, defined as the ability to mediate let or immediately influence or direct people or events, is morally neutral. We must all, depending on our walk in life, operate some power. Doubtlessly, Acton was right in his grim pronouncement, but how does one manage appropriately when one must?
