It’s hard looking back on a man from a different era, but Chernow provides a vivid description of all aspects of Washington—his thoughts on slavery, his military career, his ability to control his emotions. Giving one man dictatorial power when fighting a war for liberty may seem contradictory. Washington’s ability to show restraint molded America into this great country.
