No surprises, but it’s going to be the poor who feel collapse the most; and they’re going to be stuck in the suburbs; away from their community and connections. They won’t be able to walk to the grocery store like they could’ve when the urban areas collapsed post ww2

Not sure I like the sentiment that we need to get rid of *all* rules, but for sure I can agree some of them should definitely go. Obviously I’d prefer that we aren’t relying on private investment and build the homes with public funds owned publicly not for profit. But coops are ok too

I wonder how the suburbs will respond to us saying actually we’re going to just maintain the core area now since it’s what makes us money; or maybe their taxes should go up accordingly

I can respect that some people prefer development styles that are financially ruinous to our city. My local gvt should not feel any obligation to provide those options, particularly at the price points people expect.

BOOM!

Basically we must sacrifice growth to protect stability.

I can get behind this.

Basically this is stuff I absorbed through osmosis. How developing bigger roads induces demand, and how infrastructure is developed because of confirmation biases

Basically talking about the Ponzi scheme of building more and more but not being able to sustain it.

Liked the bit about bringing pensions into it, and how unions forgo wage increases decades ago in lieu of pensions and now companies want to cut pensions and wages!

Don’t know how I feel about how Chuck centers private development as the driving force of healthy infrastructure.

Seems pretty straight forward so far. Don’t build things more complicated than they need to be. Easier said than done
