An ad for TikTok is following me around proclaiming that they “got [us] back in bookstores and made reading cool again”. I am not on TikTok and I try not to hate social networks that aren’t made for my demographic or taste. Not everything needs to cater to me. But TikTok needs to quit with this ad. A lot of us never left bookstores and reading has always been cool.

I am on TikTok and I've been in the book community since the blogging heydays and a reader since I was 3. The ad is targeting normies who started reading because of booktok. Their algorithm is advanced enough that it should tell the difference between a seasoned reader and those that think Colleen Hoover is a great writer. For us, it should say that TikTok has made it easier to find community or recommendations because community there doesn't feel like community here on GR
@mwanamali, thanks for your comment. I’ve been thinking on it and having conversations with IRL folks about TikTok and my mind has changed. I love it when that happens. I am going to make a bookish TikTok, if you feel comfortable sharing your TikTok with me I’d love to add you there (or however that mechanic works, still figuring that out!)
