In chapter 10, Davis discusses that during her time being innocently incarcerated, she feared being executed in „the gas chamber“. It was complete news to me that there were gas chambers in the United States, which is why I googled it. In the Californian San Quentin prison, 1937 they made prisoners build one, which was in use until 1995. 196 people were executed using this method, until it was ruled to cruel.

Love this quote from chapter 7 discussing ‚All lives matter‘ slogan usage: „[…] Universal proclamations have always bolstered racism. More often than not, universal categories have been clandestinely racialized. Any critical engagement with racism requires us to understand the tyranny of the universal. For most of our history, the category ‚Human‘ has not embraced Black people and People of Color.“
