Seems a little inconsistent so far. A conversation occurs between two characters, and then a third refers to it as if they were also present. Then on this page, Emma doesn't want to take Thomas's hand when he offers to help her up because he's married and "to touch his skin would be a sin", but in an earlier chapter she was pleased that a married man had treated her as an equal by shaking her hand 🤔
