this book needed much more of zetian focusing on women's rights and working together with wan'er, taiping and qieluo throughout the book instead of focusing on the dynamic between her and qin zheng so much in the earlier parts.

I'm really not vibing with the way most of this book contains a non-stop cycle of political discussion -> implementation of new political ideas/insights -> showing the consequences of the new imperial decree. I respect that it's actually trying to engage with how running a country could work, but there really aren't enough moments where we get to focus on things I loved most about book 1 in the series.

i pretty much cleared my entire schedule for today so i could read this book in one go, but it's 8 pm and i'm stuck at 25% because i'm not having fun at all. genuinely heartbreaking
