Cecily
Cecily is finished
This was wildly creative and action-packed, which carried me though the casual racism and misogyny of 1956 SF.

But the last 100 pages became progressively weirder till I had little idea what was happening or why. Was the author tripping when he wrote it? Should readers do likewise?

Review to come. Maybe!

KC So glad you read this odd 'classic'. It's a real blast from the past and is a book I would hesistate to recommend for a 'casual' sci-fi fan or someone just getting into the genre. Still, it really pushed the boundaries of SF at the time and gave the audience a much more problematic reading of technology.

OR...people can just enjoy it as a wacky retelling of The Man in the Iron Mask and other classic revenge tales.

If you enjoyed this one, you may consider Bester's other SF 'classic', "The Demolished Man" which has a similar list of pros and cons for the contemporary reader.

Cecily Thanks for the advice, KC. Unfortunately, although don't regret finishing this classic, I can't say I enjoyed it - as I'll explain in my review.
