The dinner scene was enough for me to really fall in love with this; very glad I stuck with it! Frankly had a lot more time to read this than I ended up spending today but this year has been pretty good, looking forward to this being my first finished novel of 2025 i guess, not that anyone cares 👹

Woolf’s prose is an interesting beast; I can’t say I love nor hate it, just has many ups and downs. The sheer subjectivity of the novel is fascinating a lot of the time, and there are so many beautiful flourishes to it, but some sentences read like parody; between two lines of dialogue like “It is fine” and “Very well” there’ll be similes bordering on infinite recursion lmao. it’s all v introspective
