Coming in swiftly with loss, already so heartbreaking and we barely know the characters. You know it's good writing when even after this few pages it hurts to lose a character.
Then a chapter on badger extermination, the laws and the media surrounding it. As a zoology grad I'm already fully aware that culling badgers did nothing to curb TB in cattle.
