I might be lucky to be alive considering how stupid I was and how easily things could have turned. I should not have got in that car with a strange man I didn’t really know, and who was also my boss. I felt sorry for him, was trying to please everyone else but myself, and I didn’t want to walk home at night in case I got murdered by a stranger, but being murdered by someone I vaguely knew was ok

Or! Maybe this is commentary on how these things should have been okay in ordinary situations, HAD society or one’s support system not encouraged that one’s masculinity is threatened by the mere existence of women. The author might be pushing for active systematic change as an intervention against the spectrum of assholes from passive sexists to creeps.
