It's fast paced but I still really dislike the characterisation, especially of female characters at every level. It mentions that there are 'men and women' in the world but most of the characters are men unless they need to be used as victims or love interests. Also mass sexual violence seems to have been used as a plot device to enhance the male heroism of the protagonist. The author has a woman problem.

Can't help but keep noticing the terrible depiction of female characters. I hope that improves because the book in general is interesting, but how many times can Eo be infantilised. Women seem only to be depicted as inferior, weak, subservient, or sexualised. Meanwhile, male characters are more commonly named characters; have family histories; motivations, and agency.
