This is written in third person present tense and it's doing my head in right now.

"With a violent gasp, Folly jerks to a seat. He nearly falls falls down again in shock."

I mean why?! Why would you do that. It's painfully stilted and neither flows, or gives a vlear visual picture. Is Folly just sitting up, has he actually moved in a jerky fashion to some sort of bench?!
