A text to world connection I made while reading was about the tetrahedron being rebuilt was to the people rebuilding their houses in Maui due to the fire. "He can hand me the yellow or the blue pieces one afternoon when we're working after school, folding and gluing the tetrahedrons as usual." (p. 191) The scene of students building tetrahedrons reminded me of others who were rebuilding their houses from the fire.

Sharice's parents gave up on her, so Rhondell and Aunt Asia took her in and let her take clothes. "It feels good to sink into the black leather seat and have the beauty salon cape float down over my head and hide the clothes that aren't mine." (pg 167) Sharice feels insecure about loaning clothes from other people. She thinks people will make fun of her. She still decides to wear the clothes, as that is all she has.

James is a student of Mr. Collins' math class and is the antagonist because he hates math and thinks his teacher is pulling his grades down, though he is just trying to help. "Collins says that i'm going to fail math for the first grading period because i'm not passing his tests or turning in any of the homework." (pg 33) James is failing math and Mr. Collins persuades him to join the math club to bring his grade up.
