A great biography/backstory to compliment reading Agustus by John Williams. So far, the biography is going through his father's history and the factory of the Roman Republic and its politics.
"Hardly anybody stops to think that the month of July is named after Julius Caesar, but I suspect even fewer are aware that August is named after Augustus" (pg. 2).

Caught up to the novel Agustus! You can definitely see the fictional elements in John Williams work. Overall though, I have to say it follows along with history quite brilliantly so far (Johns work I mean). Off to continue reading!

Almost caught up to where I am in Agustus the novel timeline wise. But man, is this book dense! There is so much going on around the time of Octavius/Julius/Agustus that is mentioned as affecting the situation but is not directly involving him. Many, many more pages to read!!

Just wrapped up Julius Ceasers death, now we jump into the history of Agustus. I'm excited to see how this matches with the novel Agustus that I am reading 📚

"Better to promise wherever possible, since ‘if you refuse you are sure to rouse antagonism at once, and in more people. . . . Especially as they are much angrier with those who refuse them than with a man who . . . has a reason for not fulfilling his promise, although he would do so if he possibly could'" (pg. 41)
Wild times in the Roman Empire! But it sort of rings true today as well 🤔
