Maiden in the Moor - Elizabeth Dearnley: I loved the transcribed recordings format and how it served a purpose in the story. 4️⃣⭐️

Grassman - Rebecca Lloyd: A strange tale with an even stranger end. I will be rereading this one. 5️⃣⭐️

The Water Bells - Charles Wilkinson: I felt transported to this Welsh land that’s sacred to nothing (you’ll understand when you read it). 5️⃣⭐️

The Flabby Man - David Surface: I hadn’t felt tension like this in a long time! This story has left me on edge, and I honestly don’t think sleep will come to me easily tonight. 5️⃣⭐️

The Tunnel of Saksaksalim - Ron Weighell: I was already familiar with this one, but anything by Ron Weighell is always worth a reread. One of his strongest stories! 5️⃣⭐️

The Whisky Spinner’s God - Alex Older: Argh, I was so into this one and then it ended. I wanted more of Aveline and Thirteen Stone Hill. 4️⃣⭐️

Wassail - Sean Hogan: This one was very good! It definitely gave me Ramsey Campbell vibes, but it had its own thing going. I can’t talk about what I liked the most without giving it away, but this was a solid 4️⃣⭐️.

Horns - Rowe Irvin: Whoa, that was a doozy! My immediately reaction to the first paragraph of this story was “nope!” I took a break, and then decided to go back to it with fresh eyes and an open mind. It reminded me of the first time I read Richard Matheson’s “Born of Man and Woman”. If you’re familiar with the latter, you will know to approach this one with caution. 4️⃣⭐️

The Original Occupant - Adam Nevill: Adam Nevill is another author who I absolutely love, so I was very excited to read this one, and it surpassed my expectations! I enjoyed every second of reading this absolute gem of a story. 5️⃣⭐️

Greener Pastures - Michael Wehunt: This story has been previously published, but I’d never pass on the opportunity of rereading anything by Wehunt, another author who I adore!

Fangs and Teeth, Broken and Bloody - John Langan: I typically love everything John Langan writes, but I didn’t find this to be one of his strongest stories. Although compelling, this story broke with the pattern of the previous ones in the anthology, which were moody and atmospheric. While that’s not the author’s fault or a problem in itself, it interfered with my enjoyment of it. 4️⃣⭐️

The Knocking - Helen Grant: Atmospheric tale of a family vacation in Scotland. Aurora Borealis, a mountain, winter, a hag. I thought the choice of a teenage main character was very smart and effective. I felt like I was there with Jake experiencing every single emotion from beginning to end. 5️⃣⭐️
