1) Changing the lead pair in lesfic is common. Harder in mysteries though. Especially in that a) mystery threads from prior book still being pursued; b) there's been a personality change in Peyton that probably easier to take from inside.
2) both of the new POVs are pursuing despicable leads. Not put in motion by either, but neither attempts to go against the despicable leads/trails/options.

I did not just read from 12 to 23%, I read from 0% to 23%. As in I just reread what I had previously read then continued on.
Based on what I've read so far, you can't really read this book without having first read the previous book.
This book starts a week after the last one and continues the threads from the last one. Though main characters shifted.

I'm completelyand utterly confused. So I looked at a few things. Nothing in the description that this is a sequel to anythiong else. It's not listed as a series book on Goodreads.
