Federalist Article X, The Union as a Safeguard Against Domestic Faction and Insurrection, is a must read. It describes the pro of having such a large country in the fact that no 1 person with charisma would be able to taint the masses & abuse their influence to gain office due to the size of the nation and the limited ability to communicate. With the invention of social media, this appears to be no longer the case.
