I gleaned this bit of profundity from The Flash and was vexed that it has no real-world application. Till now.
I'm tempted to stop reading Life After Life here, as the one hint that terrible things happen to prevent unimaginably worse things has me thinking the relative victory as of page 250 might be as good as it gets...
