Emily St. John Mandel in a reddit AMA: "The books that have been most helpful to me in shaping my writing were The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje and The Executioner's Song by Norman Mailer. But I tried to read The Executioner's Song again recently, and the prose style that I loved a few years back seemed a little flat. I'll have to revisit it again in a few years."
