I know the men are the main source tension & I don't begrudge Sayuri her little limerant crush on the one person who showed her kindness at the height of her misery and loneliness, but I think I'd enjoy this story more if they did not exist lmao. Hatsumomo brings enough peril and anxiety all by her bad self!!! TBH I'd be more interested in how she became.....that way. Along with the other women in the okiya.
