I loved the description of boys skiffing rubbed seashells from the shore since I did the same with flat stones from Buckhine's black beach and boys probably still do the same today. What's touching is the perennial nature of boys, then as now. Terrific also is the account of the pagan horror at Xian atheism that hasn't come across so well in anything else I've read. I'd've exterminated them myself.
