Fascinating year-long journey, Jan. to Dec., even though each movie only gets about 2-3 pages each; I’ve stopped at #43. Of those discussed, so far, I have seen: Get Carter, THX 1138, Bananas, The Abominable Dr. Phibes (fave), Escape from the Planet of the Apes, Daughters of Darkness, Willard, McCabe & Mrs. Miller (2nd fave movie ever), Shaft, Willy Wonka, and Drive, He Said. Shoulda seen Klute by now!

Some notes: (a) I know somewhere in my Goodreads history of comments and reviews, I said I felt 1971 was the best year for movies, long before this book came along. I’m just sayin’; I want my street cred, and I want it now; (b) I will be checking out the films I haven’t seen, in random order; (c) I have read and will read much of this book at Starbucks, founded in 1971; (d) sadly, not a great Spy Film year.

It’s got to be at least 5 years ago, that I came to the conclusion that 1971 was the best year of films. It was as I was watching Duel, or Let’s Scare Jessica to Death, or Twins of Evil - in other words I was well past discovering the really famous films of 1971, and working through the “lesser” lights, and I just decided we had 1939 beat. McCabe & Mrs Miller is my second favourite movie ever. Phibes, Duel, Shaft…
