Throughout the book, it's obvious that abuse is a very big issue for Eleanor and her mother. She knows that her stepfather is abusing her mother but she's grown so used to it, it's grown to the point where she even finds this to be normal. The abuse shapes Eleanor and her personality.

I find it ironic how different Eleanor and her mother are despite the fact that they're similar in many aspects. Physically, the have very different features. Meanwhile, they both seem to have similar personality traits and think in similar ways.

Park gave off a first impression that he doesn't really say what he's feeling or thinking. He'll rather keep his mouth shut and go with what everyone else is doing instead of opening up and talking about what he thinks as an individual.
