Minorities were a large number of units in Vietnam. While they were a small population in the US, they suffered high casualties during the war. This is due to them being placed in the front lines. Many minorities groups joined to prove how patriotic they were. They were still treated like crab and sent to the front lines. Minorities were such a big role in Vietnam

The importance of male role models was a big reason a lot of men joined the marines. These men were experienced in the good war that ended evil. They were big role models and hero’s in the eyes of the men who served in Vietnam. Teachers were also highly respected in school since there were more males in high schools. Men need father figures but that could also test their ‘manhood’

The army was looked down upon a lot of the time. Patriotism and the duty to serve is what kept the marines a voluntary force. The draft a lot of the times was used to scare people into joining even before they received it. The best roles to go into were different branches and not the Army or Marines. Ofc it was a war fought by a lot of poor young Americans and many minorities were discriminated.
