The jump from the first to the second book was jarring. In the first, Mackenzie was a vulnerable lone wolf reliant on her best friend and others for support. In the second, she’s suddenly a strong, independent detective solving supernatural crimes, with no explanation for her transformation. It left me feeling disoriented. I'm considering DNF this book
