Shona’s father has the golden goblet, which he wants to use to get on Fergus’s good side and hoping for a big reward. So her father is technically selling his soul to a McPherson ghost, which is how the ghost will stay alive in the underworld.

The golden goblet holds spells, invisible spells called the secret memory. It’s a sort of battle plan that shows you how to defeat your enemies. It also protects its owners as long as they use it’s powers for good.

The ghost is Ronald McPherson who is now shonas father’s new boss, who managed to achieve a lot of power in the real world.
