I am only giving an update because Arronax said "What in the merry deuce" and I just adore that, I will be using said phrase from now on.

I decided to pick this book up again and ouuuuggghhhhhh the pacing. I've never felt more dread reading that when Arronax says "This scene beggars description" or "Oh you must tell me more" and we get a page and a half (minimum) of geological description, floral and fauna populations, and/or niche history. I want to see Nemo's resolution but there's so much sciency fluff to chug through to get there.

The dialogue between Ned Land and Conseil are amazing, they're really like two bros but trying to sound formal. Love the hunting trip bonding between the three main characters

Jules Verne won't progress the story until he's used up every single scientific nomenclature he can find in his textbooks.

In classic Jules Verne fashion, you're going to need to Google a lot of 19th century science terms to know what's going on, but that's part of the charm

I love how much of this is Professor Aronax just asking "How is this possible?" and then fanboying at how amazing Captain Nemo is for making such thing possible
