An example of a literary element used in Play the Game by Charlene Allen are flashbacks. It is effective because it allows for the reader to piece together information details about the protagonists past.

I found pathos when VZ (protagonist) starts to have a crush on a girl he knows (Diamond). When trying to find clues in order to prove Jack innocent of the murder of the white cop that killed Ed, Diamond and VZ are brought closer together.

Why is racial discrimination still incorporated in the world when there have been multiple protests against it.

I liked how I am now starting to understand what Jack's life is like, and in the process, understanding the story better.

I was surprised how the police team let go the person that killed Jack's friend VZ. In the world we live in right now, everyone in my area is treated as equals and with respect so I can't imagine how hard it must be for Jack.

I think Charlene Allen had to research criminal justice in order to write this book. I would ask the author how she got the idea to write this book because it is not easy to just "make up" a book like this.
