Definitely not for the older YA crowd. Ages 9-14 at most.

Imaginary dark spots on her face and strange movements behind her at night! Sounds like a great beginning to a horror movie!

These kids' conversation is really aggravating! You talk to a teenager for 5 minutes, you'll know this sounds completely weird. I'm not saying use "like" in every sentence but at least learn how to use everyday phrases properly.

"How are you adapting to your new home?". This is why YA is so difficult. Either the author tries too hard to make it seem believable or not hard enough. In this case, not hard enough at all. Adapting? Local shopping mall? Nobody talks like that!

I'd have liked to read this from the POV of the mother what with her dying husband and her fear of dying and her need to fix houses to keep away death. She sounds like a really interesting individual. I hope for once the mom plays a prominent role in the story. *crosses fingers*

Narration needs some work. Debut novel though, do I'm not holding it against Majanka
