He found that often is was't pain that broke a man. No, it was a lack of hope. A man could endure excruciating pain as long as they held hope in their heart. That was something not all people realised. Interrogation was not about inflicting pain. It was about eradicating hope. And the first step toward eradicating hope was destroying any sense of time. Once time became impossible to determine, hope quickly dwindled
