Mary E. Pearson All characters are always up for grabs. I loved Gwyneth and her savvy observations. Maybe one day I will return to her and her past. I never know!

Mary E. Pearson I don't know! I have a hundred story spinoffs in my head--if only I had the time to write them all. Currently working on Dance of Thieves 2 and then who knows?
Mary E. Pearson Yes! DANCE OF THIEVES is a two-book duology that comes out next August. It is set in the Remnant Universe--same setting, new kingdoms and characters. And maybe a glimpse : ) of some old favorites. Hope you get a chance to read.

Mary E. Pearson Absolutely. Read, which if you are on goodreads, I am sure you are already doing! Reading is one of the best preparations for writing. But also write--don't just think about writing and say you will do it when you have time--make the time! And on a regular basis. Writing begets writing. Become your own best critic. Be honest with yourself about what is not working. Read books on the craft of writing! Learn from other authors. I have a huge library of books on the craft of writing. I can't resist learning how other writers attack their craft. I learn something from each one. If you go to my website, marypearson.com, you will see a "For Writers" page. I list a few books and resources there.

Be persistent and patient. It takes YEARS to hone your craft, and that is the joy, in watching your writing tool chest grow. There is always more to learn.
Go for it!

Mary E. Pearson I'm honored Stacey. Thank you so much for reading and loving them. My next books with be fantasy as well, in a similar vein since they are set in the Remnant Universe. (New characters, same setting)

As for the Komizar, maybe one of these days I will have to write a short story about him. I have to admit, I loved him, in a love-hate kind of way. He was fascinating to write!

Mary E. Pearson I understand your dilemma Ava! My head is usually swimming with ideas when I start a book too, and it can be hard to figure out how to dispense all the information and lovely scenes I am picturing in my head. One solution I have found is to write all those scenes/events down on individual post-it notes and then put them up on a wall or whiteboard in the order I think they would happen. Now I can forget about all this jumble swimming in my head, and get back in the character's head. I think about what "the character" would do, and not all the things I want them to do in these post it notes. I think about what they WANT and what they NEED which are two different things. I think about the end of the story and where I think they are going, and then I write! Sometimes those "lovely post-it note" scenes fit in, sometimes they don't and they get tossed, as they should because the character and story have taken on a life of their own that is greater than my initial ideas. New ones have formed! So don't try to get it all down in the first few pages. Start with your character, the event that pushes her to act, and go from there, with the end game in the back of your mind.
I hope this helps!

Mary E. Pearson It has been released for Kindle in the countries (20 or so) that have bought foreign rights. If you can't get it, maybe your country did not publish it?

Mary E. Pearson It WAS difficult! At first I wasn't keeping track of what the words meant and then when I went back I couldn't remember what I said! Voila--a dictionary was born. Also, my literary agent got involved because she is a Doctor of Linguistics (yikes) and she had me conjugate all my verbs. I felt like I was in school again : ) but it made for a very consistent language. I have a pretty extensive dictionary now, and I'm still adding new words because in Dance of Thieves (spinoff which comes out in August) I have more Vendan dialogue.
~Mary
Mary E. Pearson Yes, totally made up, but I did base some of the words on the roots of other words, just as our language and words today are based on other words which change over time. The key to creating a language is writing it all down in your own dictionary of sorts so that you are consistent and so you can read your own words! I have to use my "dictionary" to interpret sometimes because I forget!
~Mary
Mary E. Pearson Yay for flying through them! Thanks for reading, Trista, and yes to the spinoff! Dance of Thieves is set in the Remnant World, with new characters, new kingdoms, and maybe a "glimpse" of some old favorite characters ; ) It comes out in August 2018.
Paviamma, Mary
Mary E. Pearson Every possible way you can imagine. Sometimes I am feeling what my character is feeling at the moment--that is the goal at least--to get fully inside their head and imagine their doubts, their fears, their hopes, and all the whys and histories that brought them to that point.
And then sometimes as I write I feel doubt, excitement, or fear as a writer. Am I telling the story the best way I can? Am I being true to the characters? Heck, am I making any sense at all? Writing is rarely easy, and I have to learn to push through the doubts. And sometimes I feel surprised, like someone else has written a scene and I am caught off guard as I watch it unfold, or a detail that I thought was unimportant suddenly is crucial to the plot.
And oh, when I type those last words, THE END, I feel enormous relief--because there are many times when I fear I won't ever get there. And then on the heels of relief, I feel sadness too because I don't want to say goodbye to characters I have loved.
So you can see L, there are a LOT of different feelings that take hold in the process of writing a book!
