Ha! Well, that is a funny question, given that this book took ten years to actually commit to paper because I had writer's block of epic proportions. For me, I keep it simple. When the writing becomes too mechanical, I stop, grab a glass of wine and shift gears for a bit until I am ready to come back to it. The best advice I can give is to not let it bog you down. Everyone experiences writer's block from time to time. I think it's our mind's way of telling us we're shutting down until we come up with something good.

I think the ability to share something as intimate as your writing is so interesting, especially in a narrative non-fiction piece, because you are so vulnerable. While this is scary, the neat thing is the connection that people feel like they have with you. You have walked them around your life, and they have observed these scenes as you have told them. It is very powerful.

Stop making excuses. When you are ready to commit to paper, you know. Don't let yourself get bogged down with "shoulds." Have fun with writing. It is work, but there is no reason that you shouldn't have some fun with it.

I am currently completing the final edits for this book, and putting aside stories that didn't make the cut this round, for future books.

That's a really good question. I have a problem that, I think, is shared by many writers. It is hard to force yourself to sit down and right by a schedule, or it is for me at least. I know Hemmingway supposedly had a set schedule by which he did his writing. That has never worked for me. Everything becomes so mechanical, and the writing suffers. I believe in letting the creative process flow naturally.

This book has been in the works for a better part of a decade. It just took some time to take my crazy experiences and create this cohesive book. This book is a collection of stories from my experience, and the experiences of those around me. I got the ideas through living through these experiences.
