I keep a journal now of thoughts and ideas. I can use the journal to ask myself questions about what a character thinks or wants and trouble-shoot my way out of corners I've written myself into. Block isn't so much my problem as finding balance between life's demands and my need to write. Life, especially lately with the arrival of my first grandchild, too often has other ideas for scheduling my time. I am still trying to negotiate a feasible working/writing schedule with myself.

The best thing is when the words flow and time seems to melt away and after a couple of hours you reread what you have written and wonder where it came from!

Keep writing. Seek out like-minded people and form a writing group to support and critique each other. It is very important as a writer to learn how to accept another's critique and realize that not everything we write is gold. Sometimes we have to edit and cut. Creative writing classes are very helpful. There are also a lot of excellent books to build your writer's reference library. The most crucial advice is to just keep writing.

I am currently working on the sequel to Secrets of the Home Wood: the Sacrifice. It is called The Stalker.

I have loved books since before I could read them myself. It seemed a natural progression for me to go from listening to other's stories to wanting to make up my own. At the age of nine, I started my first book. It was a daunting task and never finished, so I started writing short stories instead. One of my favourite high school English teachers encouraged me to continue to write. Creative writing classes sprinkled throughout the years kept my interest alive and provided me with the story line for my book.

My most recent book started as a writing exercise in a creative writing class, many years ago. The character still had a story to tell and brought his family along with him and before long, I had the makings of a book. That sounds like it was easy, but it has been a lot of hard work. The tremendous satisfaction of seeing it completed has definitely been worth all the hours of writing and rewriting.
