I spent about 4 months in central Washington state a couple years ago. The landscape, people, and places made my imagination run wild. I'm still trying to get everything I thought down in words. I'm really excited about this next novel.

I live full-time in an RV and travel the country. Certain places speak to me and a story starts to develop. I mostly stay out in nature away from populated areas. It's here that I can hear myself. If I don't hear anything, I move on.

I'm currently working on my second thriller novel. It always seems to take about 5 times longer than I think it will.

Never, never look at it as a way to make money. I'm not saying you can't make a living at writing. I'm just saying write because you want to. If writing means that much to you, you'll adjust your lifestyle to afford yourself time to put your words out. If you're really a writer at heart, writing is the only way you'll truly be happy even if you must do something else to eat for a while.

In my case its just what I love to do. I am able to spend much of my time devoted to writing, or thinking about writing. I'm very lucky in that way. I think it allows me to see places, people, and things in a different light than some.

Put away my pen and paper (yes, I write my first drafts by hand on legal pads), relax and find other things to do and wait for my imagination to return. It has never taken more than a couple of months!
