After the initial phase of self-hate and self-doubt has subsided, I take a small break - go out for a walk, meet with friends, or just read a good book or watch a good film or show. The point is to just take it easy and come back later. Also, keep in mind that almost every creative genius you know went through the same at some point. Kind of gives it a touch of glory.

The liberty of waking up in the morning according to your own will, and skipping the grind of a daily 9-to-5 work schedule. The readers' feedback doesn't hurt either, even if the accolades pour in from family and known corners most of the time :)

Keep learning and growing. I can't stress this enough. I know there are a lot of persistent and disciplined writers out there, but the key is to keep improving yourself with each work. Don't get stuck in a rut. Keep trying to expand your creative and intellectual dimensions by reading more, learning more, and just researching on the subjects that fascinate you.

As of now, I am in the process of completing my second novel, Charlie Next Door, out for publication in April 2016 by HarperCollins India.
I am a scriptwriter too, so my TV shows and feature film scripts keep me occupied the rest of the time.

I don't. It's just something without which I can't live. A day gone without writing a single word is inconceivable for me. I don't care if I write a word or a paragraph or a page. I just have to write. Everyday. It's not really a choice.

It was a just crazy moment during my scriptwriting course in 2009. I was struggling to find an idea for a script when I figured - how intriguing would it be if there was a story about a guy who fell for a girl with Dissociative Identity Disorder? What would their relationship be like?
However, at the time, I felt it was too whacked out an idea to pursue, so I forgot about it ... until a year and a half back when, during a rather down phase of my life, I got this picture out of nowhere of a guy lying down in the middle of a railway track, completely at peace. The more I tried to imagine what his life story would be, the more I found myself drawn towards the idea. I knew it was going to be a love story. But then, the question arose - what kind of a partner could he get? That's when Mia returned to my head in the form of that girl with the two alters. The concept of the relationship between a manic depressive suicidal guy and a girl with DID was, in my mind, an utterly improbable one. But this time, it was this same challenge that kept me going and hooked onto their story.
