Tom Stone Persistence. And lots of reading by many different writers in many different genres. I also find that a knowledge of and feeling for the dramatic structure used in plays and screenwriting to be very helpful in setting up a plot. I rarely pay any attention to it now that it's in my system, but it's really good to know about.
Tom Stone As I said above, I never had it. But there are days when I really feel that the well is dry. When I have no ideas, and nothing to write, and am certain that I never will again. So what I do is, I decide to write just a couple of sentences, maybe even one. Or maybe just some scratches, a few notes. So I sit there noodling for the prescribed amount of time I set for working, which is about 3 to 4 hours in the mornings. Almost inevitably, that one sentence leads to three or four hours of work. At the end, it may not be very good, but it usually leads to a much more productive session the following day.
Tom Stone The joy of getting up in the morning and having that ahead of you -- even when you're agonizing through a difficult, seemingly impossible briarpatch
Tom Stone One is a prequel to my memoir "The Summer of My Greek Taverna." Titled "Sleepless Nights & Rosy-Fingered Dawns," It describes the lengthy two-year journey I took (or stumbled through) to get to the island of Patmos after leaving New York and my career on Broadway. I have about seventy-five pages written right now. But they are on hold while I continue and finish my second project, which is a novel called "Hotel of Dreams." I rather not say anything more about it for fear of dissipating the energy.
Tom Stone I'm always inspired. I have more ideas than I could possibly work on in two lifetimes. They just come up – from something I see, something I hear, something I read.I've never had writer's block, thank thank the gods!
Tom Stone I first got the idea for "The Curse of the Minotaur" when I was living on the island of Crete (site of the "labyrinth") in the late 1970s. The idea became a little more urgent when I was researching and writing "Zeus". Then I looked through the adventures of Percy Jackson and realized that it was high time somebody wrote the true story of the Minotaur legend and the facts behind it.
