On Tuesday I posted a piece of art announcing the name of book 2, and I'm looking at an April publishing date. Will announce on Goodreads as soon as I have a definite date. Thank you so much for reading book 1, and might I suggest that early to mid April would be a good time to reread A Secret Muse :)
Mandy Jackson-Beverly Can't say I'm a lover of the phrase 'writer's block.' Writing is like anything else—there are times when we need to take breaks, to get out of our heads and let 'stuff sort itself out.' And when that happens to me, it's more often than not an indicator that I need some TLC. I go and have a coffee with a friend, hike, swim, read, or paint. This allows my mind to clear and my characters to sort themselves out. Once this happens, I'm deluged with their frantic banter and run for my keyboard or nearest journal :)
Mandy Jackson-Beverly I love everything that goes along with being a writer: conducting interviews, researching, storyboarding, journaling, editing. Writing is what I've always imagined myself doing—it just took me a while to get here.
Mandy Jackson-Beverly My advice is to write everyday. A poem, one line, write down your dreams, your aspirations, a letter...just write!
Mandy Jackson-Beverly I'm currently working on Book 2 of "A Secret Muse," along with blogs I write for different publications, including my own website.
Mandy Jackson-Beverly My parents encouraged my creativity, and whether I'm painting or writing, it's an innate part of who I am. I used to enjoy writing stories as a little girl, and then in high school I had a wonderful English teacher—she seemed to 'get' me, and understood my need to explore my somewhat wild imagination. She also taught through project based learning. That was a huge turning point for me. Once I saw how everything—history, language, geography, the arts, science, etc.—were all connected, learning finally began to make sense. But more importantly, it was fun!
Mandy Jackson-Beverly The idea for the story of "A Secret Muse," came to me through snippets of ideas, from images of everyday life, my nightly dreams, and my deep love of art and history. I remember being in the art studio where I was teaching high school AP art classes, it was late at night...I reached out to touch one of my student's paintings and I began crying. I wondered who would nurture my students when they left for college, who would encourage their creativity? Their exceptional portfolios inspired me to write "A Secret Muse."
