Gail Ingis Victorian times fascinated me, as did the painting Domes of Yosemite.
Gail Ingis The Domes of Yosemite, a painting 10'h x 15'w painted by Albert Bierstadt, inspired me to write my first book. Mr. Bierstadt, a 19th century artist, was paid by Mr. Lockwood, $25,000 in 1863 to paint a new west scene for Mr. Lockwood's home in Norwalk, CT. Today, that sum would likely be half a million. I researched Bierstadt's life, copied the painting, and wrote a historic romance based on his journey west. Loved all the discoveries, some mentioned in the last question. Did you know for a woman to get a divorce in the 19th century, she had to place an announcement in the newspapers? http://www.gailingis.com. Scroll in the nature section for "Domes of Yosemite" 24x36.
Gail Ingis I am an artist working on finishing a project of Coney Island works, primarily in oil, that will be in a one-woman show at the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum, Norwalk CT, in the summer into early fall this year, 2016. It will culminate with a grand reception on Thursday, September 8th. Then I will most likely write a sequel to Indigo Sky. I have characters that are due their own story.
Gail Ingis Take workshops, ask for mentors, meet with other writers, get a critique partner, do not do it alone, it's productive to be involved.
Gail Ingis The best thing about being a writer is finishing the story. No, really . . . discovery is the best thing about being a writer. I loved discovering the Buffalo Soldiers that were a strong Union unit during the Civil War. Loved discovering the Forts that protected our soldiers, loved discovering travels. All this and more in my book, Indigo Sky, in 1863.
Gail Ingis I continue writing, even if I write bagel, bagel, bagel, until the juices start flowing again. Or, brew a cup of decaffeinated Joe, add a no- sugar sweet and whip up some unsweetened almond milk, in my foam creator, for a delicious cappuccino. Sometimes though, I need a break, a get-away from the writing. A walk in the woods is always invigorating, but I don't have any woods here, so I settle for a walk around the block.
