Goodreads asked Gail Ingis:

How do you get inspired to write?

Gail Ingis The Domes of Yosemite, a painting 10'h x 15'w painted by Albert Bierstadt, inspired me to write my first book. Mr. Bierstadt, a 19th century artist, was paid by Mr. Lockwood, $25,000 in 1863 to paint a new west scene for Mr. Lockwood's home in Norwalk, CT. Today, that sum would likely be half a million. I researched Bierstadt's life, copied the painting, and wrote a historic romance based on his journey west. Loved all the discoveries, some mentioned in the last question. Did you know for a woman to get a divorce in the 19th century, she had to place an announcement in the newspapers? http://www.gailingis.com. Scroll in the nature section for "Domes of Yosemite" 24x36.
