There are several hometown murders which continue to go unsolved. They'd be GREAT content for books.

I love Nikki Heat and Rook! Or Castle and Beckett. Depends on if you've read the book or watched the TV show. They've got such a great reportee and are a fantastic crime-solving team, with heat and sizzle!

Writing is my answer to confusion or clarity. Writing is often how I find my voice and focus. The satisfaction I get from creating moments of joy and intrigue motivate me to keep writing, even when there's laundry to be done. Another bonus is talking about the books with friends and fan-girling together.

Write and write and read about writing, and then teach somebody else to write. Teaching has taught me more about writing than I ever imagined it would.

So many moments inspire me to write: the crisp scent of barbeque on a chilly winter's evening, stars hovering overhead, or the sound of the wind's song as it bristles the leaves on a nearby tree. Whether I am happy or sad, traumatically overwhelmed at some unimportant detail of life, or simply walking along on a warm, blue-skied afternoon, writing helps me make cosmos of the chaos.

Insurrection sits very near and dear to my heart. A group of my friends, when we were in those confused pre-teen/early teen years, played games together after school. The characters from the series emerged from those afternoons, and a variety of other memorable moments from my younger years -- seeing a beautiful sail boat in the harbor near Corpus Christi, Texas, and my years of softball practice --all combined to serve as the foundation of the story premise.

As a teacher, when students come to me asking for help because they are blocked, I tell them to just start writing. Write anything. Begin. Discuss what you recently ate, the weather, or to describe the oddest item nearby. Personally, my writing triggers are long walks on windy evenings, taking a shower, and talking over ideas with my husband. We've spent many enjoyable evenings hashing out what a character would or could do, and then I start writing those down.

I'm editing Book 2 of the Insurrection series (wooo!!!) and have begun writing Book 3.
