Mostly problems, situations, of one kind or another, that affect others or myself and relate to the past. I`m not comfortable writing current issues. I have written quite a few stories that are set in the 70s that haven´t been published and my attention will in time be focused on them.

Read the classics as much as you can, and write, write, write. Don´t allow yourself to be easily impressed or satisfied. Seek the opinions of persons you can trust. Endeavour to write simple, which I still find difficult.

The idea of having one´s work read by others, and the various impressions and perspectives presented. The other side or rather less attractive aspect is the hard work involved.

What inspired me to write these stories was that, on a personal level, I had in the mid-sixties become politically conscious and socially engaged with the times. I wanted to be involved with something or another. Several dreams were jostling with each other. But the goal of making the world a better place for all, and the need for self-realization was made apparent for peoples in various regions of the world. I chose to support the black American struggle. The question of identity, being authentically black, was in full swing. There were, of course, accusations from left, right, and centre. During those years, I held a leftish position on matters of such and others. And instead of expressing my experiences (and that of others) as non-fiction, I chose the genre of fiction. I wanted some distance from the subject matter.
