Goodreads asked Lawrence G. Taylor:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Lawrence G. Taylor What inspired me to write these stories was that, on a personal level, I had in the mid-sixties become politically conscious and socially engaged with the times. I wanted to be involved with something or another. Several dreams were jostling with each other. But the goal of making the world a better place for all, and the need for self-realization was made apparent for peoples in various regions of the world. I chose to support the black American struggle. The question of identity, being authentically black, was in full swing. There were, of course, accusations from left, right, and centre. During those years, I held a leftish position on matters of such and others. And instead of expressing my experiences (and that of others) as non-fiction, I chose the genre of fiction. I wanted some distance from the subject matter.
