S.D. Banks Probably Mr. Knightley and Emma Woodhouse. George Knightley sees through Emma's apparent superficiality, holds her accountable for her occasional thoughtlessness, and is willing to wait for her to grow up. In short, he understands her and loves what lies beneath. Likewise, Emma comes to love Knightley from the inside out. Their love is based on respect and friendship and, as opposed to a shallower love based purely on passion, theirs is the sort that lasts.
S.D. Banks Thank you so much for your kind comments! I hope your mom likes it, too. Yes, I plan to continue writing. It isn't yet my "day job," however, so the next book may take awhile! I am most intrigued by your comment that books like this are rare. It interests me because a lot of the professional feedback I got in the early stages said that it a) is too long, b) has too much history, and c) doesn't have enough sex/romance. I tried very hard to make my manuscript conform with commercial guidelines and just couldn't do it. In the end, I wrote the kind of book that I like to read and -- as you said -- those are few and far between among popular fiction these days! I am so gratified to hear that someone else sees it my way. Very encouraging!
S.D. Banks Hmmm. Not sure I'm qualified to answer this because I'm not sure my "method" is really a method at all. I just start putting things on the paper. Even if I KNOW they will get deleted later, it seems to help just to throw things out there. Eventually, they begin to take shape. Sometimes it's a LONG process -- but it's the one that seems to work for me.
S.D. Banks For me, it's just the pleasure I take in writing. I love words -- putting them together, playing with the rhythm and sound of them. I love reading literature, and older books and authors that have that appreciation for the use of language (which is a digression, but so be it). I just love writing -- always have.
S.D. Banks A sequel to Transcendent Loyalties.
S.D. Banks For me, inspiration is the easy part. Every time I visit a place of historical interest, or read a biography or some other non-fiction book, I feel like I REALLY want to tell this story. It's reining myself in that's the hard part!
S.D. Banks I was reading a biography of Dr. Joseph Warren, and was so taken with the fact that he was so important to the budding revolution, and yet so few people know who he was. Then, we took a vacation to Boston, and the whole thing just began to come together as something I HAD to write.
