S.D. Banks Probably Mr. Knightley and Emma Woodhouse. George Knightley sees through Emma's apparent superficiality, holds her accountable for her occasional thoughtlessness, and is willing to wait for her to grow up. In short, he understands her and loves what lies beneath. Likewise, Emma comes to love Knightley from the inside out. Their love is based on respect and friendship and, as opposed to a shallower love based purely on passion, theirs is the sort that lasts.
