Kimberly, are you kidding me??? I welcome anything you’d have to say. Thank you for reading my book — I am honored. Am glad Sarah grew on you as she grew over the course of the story. I appreciate your letting me know. May I ask where your book club is located? Date and time? I ask, because I love to video conference in via FaceTime, etc., if there’s any interest. Again, I thank you. Bren

Cathy, why thank you! You make my heart skip a beat. No, the movie rights have not been acquired -- appreciate your asking. Should someone come knocking, I'd definitely consider it. Thank you! Bren

Oh my goodness! This takes my breath away. I am so deeply humbled. And that Kathy Murphy -- no greater of champion of books and writers has ever been born.
You questions -- I am hard at work on my next novel, TOOK. With publishing the way it is today, I imagine it'll be released sometime in 2020???? And, yes, I am hoping to be at Girlfriend's Weekend! Will you be????? I'd love to meet you.
Truly, what an honor, Jenelle.

Hi Danny. I'm not sure what you're asking, but no, I don't eat beef.

Hey there, Danny. I will be at Lemuria Books this afternoon and had planned to look for your book there. Cannot wait to read it. Did you hire an outside publicist? How did you find Caitlin? I'm going to be in Davidson in June. What part of NC do you live in? Thank you again for your kind words. So glad our paths have crossed. Bren

Why, Danny, thank you! I am quite honored. What gave me the inspiration? A promise I made to two beings -- a man named Ron, who gave me the initial seed for the book when he confessed a secret he'd been carrying since he was a boy of six growing up outside of Birmingham, AL and a mama cow whose cries for her calf settled in my bones. I couldn't bring her calf back, but I could tell her story. A big congratulations to you for being considered for the Southern Book Prize! I want to read YOUR book!! Thank you again. Bren

George and Lennie of Steinback's "Of Mice and Men." Why? The complexity of their relationship. George's contempt of Lennie, yet love. I also adore that they have a dream, a fantasy that drives them forward. An escape from their reality, which is grim. Gives the story levity.

Two parts:
1) Came from a secret a stranger told me on his porch in Atlanta, GA in 1994.
2) A gathering of mama cows on my Daddy's farm in November of 2007. Their gutteral sounds as they called for their babies who had been weaned from them the day before.

I am currently writing a novel titled TOOK, which is inspired by the real life story of Eula Bates, who was committed against her will to the South Carolina Insane Asylum in 1951 for refusing to give the government the right of way through her farm to build a road into the Savannah River Hydrogen Bomb Plant. An excerpt recently won the 2016 William Faulkner Gold Medal for Novel-in-Progress.

If you can do anything else, do it. But, if you can't, if your heart is called to write, then put your butt in the chair and present yourself fully. Do it at a designated place and at the same time every day.

I get to inhabit someone else's mind and body, which creates amazing empathy for mankind. We all are contradictions. We're all full of poetry.
